Abstract

Currently, the celebration of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and thepastoral care of the sick continue to be victims of a kind of ostracism. The memory of extreme unction is still very much alive in our communities and this makes not only pastoral practice difficult but also the reception of the sacrament itself. The experience of an encounter with Christ and with the brothers in the face of a situation of fragility or illness can favor not only the strengthening of community relations but also the creation of a culture of co-responsibility for the other that opposes the culture of discard that dangerously extends to human relationships. This work intends to be an attempt to bring out the ecclesial and spiritual reflection in this field of action of the Catholic Church.
