Abstract

This study focused on teams working at Banco BV, the 5th largest private bank in Brazil, according to the ranking of the Brazilian Central Bank. It was investigated the contribution of psychological safety to the performance of teams, in learning behavior and with the leadership style (servant leadership) can help psychological safety in this environment. According to the literature review, the absence of fear in speaking, participating and sharing ideas favors learning behavior, the performance of teams and an environment to seek solutions, innovations and anticipation of solutions to future problems, that is, psychological safety can contribute to the performance of the team and to the success of the organization. To assess the contribution of psychological safety in the performance of the teams, an investigation was conducted with a sample of 148 participants, involving team leaders and employees from various departments. It was possible to validate three hypotheses that relate psychological safety to team performance, learning behavior and leadership style. The data resulting from the investigation demonstrated a positive correlation between the variables analyzed, that is, when the psychological safety of the teams increases, there is a positive impact on the learning behavior and performance of the teams. In addition, it was observed that leadership style is positively correlated with psychological safety. This study also presents information about psychological safety in virtual teams, the relationship of trust and vulnerability to the development of psychological safety.
