This report intends to present my way of technical director of the Childhood and Youth Home of the Fundação Casa de Trabalho Dr. Oliveira Salazar – Patronato de Santo António , in Bragança.It is an exercise of reflection that is theoretically justified about the experience while socioeducational agent responsible for the CYH management. The reflection, about the professional way, is strictly connected with the mission of the institution: shelter children and young people according to the law of protection and promotion. This function is made in a table of deep social, cultural and legal changes of the sector of protection and promotion of childhood and youth. We try with the knowledge acquired in the areas of social and education sciences reflect our pedagogical practices. The analysis of the professional practice is based on the institutional pedagogical projects. This reflection has been structured since 1998, year when I started this function till the present, highlighting my professional experience, playing an important role in the changes operated in the Casa de Trabalho. One of the responsibilities of the technical director is to ensure that each child has a suitable environment for their development in CYH. This function consists of monitoring the application, in practice, of the child in every moment of their stay in the institution, shelter, helping in the creation of conditions to the return to their family and their desinstitutionalization. The understanding of concepts of necessities,the study of applicability of responses and the evaluation of practices are fundamental to guide the educators in the relationship with the child. The daily life is organized according to what we consider essential to the child and that defines us as an institution of shelter and education. Without forgetting the concept of individuality: each child is a whole and unique individual, who carries their story of life: their traumas, their relations of affection, their expectations, anxieties and fears. This individual perspective should be in the centre of all of our tasks and educational relationships. We reflected these approaches in an articulation among binding, individuality/identity and institutional shelter designing the project of individual life of the children who are entrusted to us. The theoretical and practical picture, provided by the social pedagogy, when underlying to the tasks of taking care and educate in the wider area of CYH, allows to expect a dynamic in which each individual, children, parents and collaborators play a role of change. In short, we consider that stimulate a culture of integration and complementary of knowledge of the several domains of social and education sciences will allow to the expression of originality and creativity of each project of the individual life.
