Studies on media, and mainly its audiences, have shown a particular concern on analyzing, deeply understanding and enriching the importance of the receiver in defining and constructing meanings diffused in the mass media communication, giving origin to television content that act as representation of a mediated culture. Women are therefore a particular and specific audience of television, where gender is patented as a key variable in the study of reception and content appropriation. In this research, the plan is to understand how women identify themselves with the observed content and, above all, how they perceive images and narratives conveyed by the media as their own. In other words, to understand the way in which women engage in what they watch – domain appropriation – and ultimately rebuild, recreate and reflect this in their daily lives. With this research, centered on the thematic channel “SIC Mulher”, we intend on contributing to an enriched and gender theorized approach – a way to understand, relate and deeply analyze – as a determining factor that allows us to understand how the narratives of the contents specifically designed for a female audience, are perceived, interpreted and appropriated.
