As obras de Carlos Gutkin como fator motivacional no ensino formal da Guitarra Clássica

Abstract

The impact of using Carlos Gutkin’s works as a motivational factor in the formal teaching of the classical guitar is the object of study of this Projeto de Intervenção Pedagógica (PIP), that was implemented at the Conservatório d’Artes de Loures, during the 2nd and 3rd terms of the academic year of 2021/2022. For this investigation, 16 students participated, aged between 12 and 20 years old. As a research methodology for this project, Investigation-Action was used, of empirical typology, by dividing the participants into two distinct groups – an experience group and a control group – during both phases of the project (the first phase took place during the 2nd term, and the second phase took place during the 3rd term). To consolidate the obtained results, the group roles were reversed from the first to the second phase. Both groups worked the same amount of repertoire during each term, with the difference that the experimental group worked a Carlos Gutkin piece, while the control group worked mainly traditional repertoire. The techniques and instruments used to collect and produce data were questionnaire surveys carried out with the students, and observation and assessment grids. A brief reference to one of Gutkin’s pieces and an interview with the composer were also included. The results indicate that the inclusion of these works in the students’ repertoire might have provided an increase in motivation. This way, the work presented here intends to be a contribution to a better understanding of the relationship between the choice of repertoire and the students' motivation.
