Abstract

The report aims to contextualize the internship at Instituto de Seguros de Portugal, insurance and pension funds supervision authority, as an integrative part to accomplish the master degree and which serve as a complement to improve the pratical and theorical knowledge in a real environment. In this regard, the life insurance sector is aproached, and of which it's pretended to infer that it might be used to bridge the future income losses of economic agents when entering in retirement, as well as explain their valences and most important concepts. The report is then presented as a case study, Regulation and Supervision in Portugal, wich pretends to explain the life insurance sector in the regulator perspective through the legal provisions that it implies in his activity. It's also intended to clarify the legal provision of the products themselves, with a view to the forthcoming of the life insurance future market, and which may have the purpose of complementing the pensions paid by the State social security. Through this work it's shown the importance of this type of products to the insurance sector, to the national economy, as also to policyholders and their beneficiaries. It's also deduced the valences of an effective regulator, enlightening some guidelines to a market that will help families in their future.
