The aim of this dissertation is to analyse, document and define a proposal for the reorganisation of the museum collection of the Cerveira Biennial Museum, managed by the Cerveira Art Biennial Foundation (FBAC). Through an in-depth diagnosis of the conditions of the museum reserve, structural and functional risks were identified that affected the conservation of the collection, comprising more than 700 works of contemporary art. Based on the RE-ORG method and the adapted version of the ABC method by Pedersoli Jr. and Michalski (2016), the factors of degradation were assessed and preventive conservation strategies appropriate to the specificities of the FBAC were applied. The theoretical/practical approach includes a feasible, well-founded reorganisation plan based on a realistic approach, considering the technical, human and financial limitations of the institution. It describes the implementation of storage and spatial reorganisation measures, respecting the principles of sustainability and accessibility. The work also includes a set of recommendations for future interventions, based on national and international reference models. Finally, the evolution of the project to implement new equipment/furniture and a brief characterisation of the space are presented, noting that the process was not completed by the date of delivery of the dissertation. This study is a practical and theoretical contribution to the management and conservation of museum collections in small and medium-sized institutions with diverse collections and limited resources.
