Abstract

With this project we intend to investigate the way that ICT contributes to the creation of stories with children of preschool and how the use of ICT in schools, promotes the inclusion of parents in their children's learning. Furthermore, we want to discover how children react to digital stories on the computer, if they are able to create digital stories with the help of ICT, which skills can ICT help promote in children and the role of ICT in strengthening the relationship school-family. We conducted a questionnaire to the children (through casual conversation) and found out that most of them have computer and internet. Children access the internet at home and use the computer mostly to play. When we started the activities we explained to the children that we would work on the computer and create stories (based on the different techniques to invent stories invented by Rodari and using Go! Animate, Windows Live Movie Maker and Animoto). During the activities, the children showed some initial difficulty in participating, which was overcome through the creation of the stories. The children were able to select scenarios and characters, to dialogue and resolve minor disputes. They put a lot of creativity in their activities, as well as doubts and made discoveries about the several programs. Throughout the creation of the stories the children said they were enjoying the activities, that they enjoyed the stories they created and that they wanted to show them to their parents and friends. After conducting all the activities with the children we carried out a questionnaire to the parents involved in this study and found that the majority considers the involvement of children with ICT important, that most children talk with their parents about digital storytelling, explains how the storie was made and asks to go to blog. Most parents like to see the creations of their children and considers the blog a good source of propagation of child´s work, as it allows the inclusion of parents in their child's learning.
