Abstract

Our study focuses on possible "transformations of Cape Verdean families living in Braga" Marked by migratory tradition, many Cape Verdean families seek, across borders, improve their living conditions, Portugal being one of the favored destinations. In Braga, the presence of Cape Verde's natural is not as large as in the regions of Lisbon and Porto, or even other European cities, but we found still a real community, in the sociological sense. From the experience of seven Cape Verdean families, we try to understand through semi-structured interviews with each of its members, our thinking seeks to apprehend the integration mechanisms in the context of the city of Braga. In migratory context, a number of variables (relating to two companies) make yet more complex analysis of any changes occurring within the family structure. To avail ourselves of the influences exerted by the host society and the impact of own “capeverdeanness”, we especially note five dimensions that we consider fundamental: spouses, profession and fundraising; gender relations and family hierarchy; relations parents and children; family and education; sociocultural changes. We try also to analyze the possible use of Portuguese social services at the integration process of these families.
