Abstract

In recent years, we have seen a number of changes in the work environment, including technological advances, new business models and an emphasis on cognitive aspects such as flexibility and autonomy. These changes have an impact on the way people view work and the level of satisfaction they feel from their work activities. So far, research has focused on job satisfaction and life satisfaction, and there has been no relationship between these variables and job valences. In order to characterise the associations between these three variables, the present study aims to investigate the relationship between satisfaction, both general life satisfaction and job satisfaction, with work valences in entrepreneurs. This was an exploratory, quantitative, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional study in which 35 entrepreneurs took part. The ages of the participants varied in terms of age (22 to 66), experience in entrepreneurship (less than 1 year to more than 30 years) and sectors of activity, providing a diverse view of the impact of work valences and satisfaction in both the personal and professional spheres. Four instruments were used: a Sociodemographic Questionnaire; the Work Valences Scale; the Brief Index of Affective Job Satisfaction Scale; and the Satisfaction With Life Scale. The data obtained was processed using IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 28. The results of this study show that valences at work are significantly associated with job satisfaction and general satisfaction with life. In addition, it was observed that autonomy and a sense of personal fulfilment are important mediating factors in the relationship between work valences and life satisfaction, highlighting the relevance of work-life balance as an essential dimension in the overall satisfaction of entrepreneurs.
