Abstract

The present report falls within the scope of 15th Course of Master’s in Nursing, Specialization in Medical-Surgical: in the area of Nursing for Person in Critical Situation, from Instituto de Ciências da Saúde of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, has the goal of evaluating the acquisition process and development of nursing specialized skills and masters’ by the reflection of scientific, technical, ethical, and relational responsibility of the specialized nurse in a professional practice of excellence. For the conception of this report it was used a methodology that sits on a descriptive, reflexive and introspective of reality analysis lived in the context of internships, with the goal of develop specialized skills in the context of Medical-Surgical Nursing, based on Afaf Meleis’ Transition Theory.The performed internships were subdivided in two curricular units: Internship I –Person in a Critical Situation and Family – Clinical Decision and Vigilance, performed in a General Emergency Service and Internship II – Final Internship and Report, performed in an Intensive Care Unit, both belonging to a Central Hospital in Metropolitan Area of Lisbon. During each internship there were defined specific goals that served as guides developing skills of specialized care in a person in a critical situation.This report also includes a Literature Review, performed on a topic still little approached by Nursing, however very sensitive to Nursing intervention, and it was defined the following investigation question: “What are the experiences of guilt in the post-caregiver bereaved by cancer?”. It is important for Nursing to understand the experiences of caregivers so posteriorly being able to elaborate interventions and support strategies for informal caregivers that take care of a loved one.The journey performed during the Masters’ allowed me to consolidate knowledge in a critical and conscient way, taking specialized nursing care and based on the most recent scientific evidence.
