Abstract

This internship report explores leadership and self-leadership phenomena. It is intended, through the exploration of the concept of leadership, to perceive if it is possible for an individual to lead himself and, therefore, in which ways can someone lead himself/herself and how can that affect our behaviors, our performance.
This investigation explores leadership phenomena and it´s various styles, as well as emotional intelligence, in order to identify some indicators that allow the exploration of the notion of self-leadership. We can say that leadership was reasonably studied by academic communities and we already know much about this phenomena, notwithstanding that many questions are unanswered or without empirical basis. One of this questions refers itself to self-leadership and the need to manage our ownselves. Since in nowadays we have more and
more freedom, needing to make countless decisions and reacting accurately to each context that surrounds us in our everyday life, it becomes important for us to be capable of managing our own thoughts, emotions and behaviours, in a way that the actions and choices we make are well succeed.
A good self-leadership, as we will see, may help an individual to respond to its’
spirituality, its’ goals and dreams, more easily. When we need motivation, when we are emotionally unstable or need to get some confidence, efficient self-leadership may affect positively our thoughts and, hence, our behaviours. Striving to lead our ownselves may be advantageous for our personal and professional life. Naturally, because the type of work and the context in which it was made, we conceed more focus to it´s possible relevance in professional and organizational contexts.
This investigation, founded on the literature review pointed, is also based on eight semistructured interviews made to the members of team of Porter Novelli Portugal Communication Agency.
