Abstract

Despite the scientific advances in the understanding and treatment of people with schizophrenia, this serious mental illness is still considered as the most disabling, with impact on psychosocial functioning and quality of life of those who suffer from it. Among the aspects that have been identified as being engaged in these patients are the deficits in social information, behavioral, emotional, or changes which are events and changes in emotional processing mechanism, this being referred to as social cognition. (Marques- Teixeira, 2007). The world of the individual with deficits in social cognition gain new meanings as it is distanced from the common reality shared by society in general, it is as if he could not get out of it to put on other's roule, implying disability in mental understanding of others (Green & Horan, 2010). This multiple case study aimed to assess the impact of the portuguese version of an intervention program in social cognition (Social Cognition and Interaction Training (Penn et al., 2009), improving the functioning in this area in people with diagnosis of schizophrenia. In the study conducted by Penn, et al. (2009) there was an obvious improvement of social skills, which became truly encouraging and exciting, since the purpose of the study would be considerable impact on social cognition. Thus, this would confirm the shaft in certain areas of patients 1 and 2, can elucidate the relationship between the SCIT cognitive and social change. Thus, it is necessary to continue the study of this important aspect of human functioning in order to contribute to the recovery of people diagnosed with schizophrenia.
