Abstract

In our days evaluating elderly quality of life should be a cause for concern, because to assure the increase of the average hope of life is not enough desire, we need to promote a longer and healthy life. Life´s style has been pointed by several studies as a relevant factor of health and longevity, in the ageing process. We know that the functional capacity decline may be influenced by the environment or the life style. Our general investigation objective has been to evaluate the quality of life of physical activity elderly practitioners. The research took place in the city of Viseu, with the participation of 245 people over 65 years, integrated in the local programme of physical activity promotion, seniors only. Considering the objectives, we used descriptive research with recourse at a quantitative methodology, we conduct a survey by questionnaire. This investigation begins with a socio-demographic characterization, we integrated two questions about the responding perception at the importance of the physical activity and to evaluate the quality of life we applied the MOS SF-36. We have a predominantly female sample, married, middle age between 65 and 69 years old, with compulsory schooling and a rural life. The results show that men have more global quality of life than woman, schooling and profession positively contributed for a life with quality.
