Abstract

The study at hands main objective is to characterize a range of women during the therapy after a mastectomy referring to the quality of life and the strategy of coping. Nevertheless there still has to be collected relevant information for the future construction of programs of psychological intervention for, briefly said, mastectomy women, with the intention to improve the quality of recovery after a mastectomy. This work was made with a selection of women during the therapy after a mastectomy at a central hospital in the northern region of Portugal (N=62). The sources for this study are transversal. The Portuguese editions of the following evaluations were used: World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-Bref) and Breif Cope. Describable surveys were executed with the help of fluctuating or still being undertaken investigating analysis under the influence of mutable sociodemografics: marital status or by origin or age as mutable psycho-social measures. One can assert correlations between the strategy of coping and the marital status as well as between the strategy of religion and age. However no connection could be made between QvD and any of the mutable sociodemografics. To finish off, the limits to the study and the impact of the results on future investigations as well as on the development of programs of intervention to improve the quality of the recovery process after a mastectomy were discussed.
