Avaliação de um índice de risco de cárie numa população adulta

Abstract

Introduction: Caries is the main chronic disease affecting humans. The assessment of the risk of caries is essential to find individuals more likely to develop these lesions and thus individualize the treatment plan, providing preventive measures to prevent the onset or progression of the disease. Goal: Develop an index of assessment of caries risk based on CAMBRA modified by the addition and modification of the analysed factors. Initiate the application of the index to the population of the CDU-UCP verifying the feasibility of the procedures and leaving recommendations for the continuation of the study. Materials and methods: The CAMBRA caries risk index was modified and then applied in a cross-sectional observational study including 80 patients who attended the CDU-UCP during the data collection period. Each patient who met the necessary requirements to participate in this study was observed by the investigators who collected patient data through a questionnaire, an intraoral evaluation, and the collection of saliva and biofilm samples. Results: In the 80 patients evaluated, we classified 56.25% as low risk (n=45), 27.50% as moderate risk (n=22), 13.75% as high risk (n=11) and 2.50 as very high risk. % (n=2). The feasibility of the procedures was verified, although there are improvements to be made, namely in the microbiological analysis to be carried out. Conclusion: In this work, the specific objectives of verifying the feasibility of applying the proposed index were fulfilled, as well as to evaluate the changes necessary to apply the index more generally in CDU-UCP, in all first appointments. In this way, patient follow-up becomes more accurate and personalized and future dentists are trained in this type of assessment that they can then take to their post-graduate clinical practice.
