For this, a valid and reliable evaluation instrument should be used to screen and evaluate of the effectiveness of the interventions. Methodology: This study aims to present in a structured and clear way the whole process of translation and linguistic validation of the Discomfort Scale for Dementia of the Alzheimer Type (DS-DAT), according to a theoretical framework, carried out in five stages: translation to Portuguese from Portugal, synthesis translation, translation into the original language, synthesis of translations and review by a panel of experts on dementia, palliative care and linguistics. Conclusion: The translation and cross-cultural validation of DS-DAT (after the conclusion of the metric validation) will provide access in Portugal to a valid and objective instrument for the diagnosis of discomfort in individuals with dementia of Alzheimer type, and will provide quantitative data that will support the practice of palliative care in individuals with dementia of the Alzheimer type.
