Abstract

Surf therapy is an innovative intervention that combines the therapeutic benefits of surfing with structured activities, using contact with nature to promote overall well-being. This qualitative study explored the impact of the pilot project “Waves in You”, aimed at migrant and refugee children, with the goal of promoting their emotional well-being and social inclusion. The methodology involved conducting semi-structured interviews with professionals and volunteers who participated in the implementation of the program. The results revealed a positive impact on the children targeted by the intervention, reflected in improvements in emotional well-being, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and social relationships. The project also fostered interpersonal bonds and strengthened family support networks. For the interviewed volunteers and professionals, the experience contributed to their own personal growth and the development of greater social awareness. The main reported challenges included language barriers and logistical difficulties. Suggestions for future editions focused on expanding the target audience, improving session organization, and structuring team training. The results highlight the potential of surf therapy and the need for further research to support evidence-based interventions.
