Abstract

The present document describes the creation and development of the book Pequenos Contos, Grandes Vidas (Small Tales, Great Lives), which gathers tales based on the lives of six elders accompanied by the social aid project Mais Proximidade, Melhor Vida (MPMV). MPMV supports elders who experience loneliness and isolation in Baixa of Lisbon. The main purpose of this book was to involve the elders in order to provide them better quality of life and improvements in well-being. To support this objective, we proceeded to a literature review of well-being concept and its implications in the ageing process, the theories presented by Erik Erikson about the psychosocial development and Butler’s life review, also analyzing the advantages of the life narratives and storytelling, especially among the elderly population. The method used to gather the information required for the development of the book was the biographical interview. As result, it was observed feelings of satisfaction in the elders involved, which lasted at least four months after the book was published. The book results also as a communication product that allows MPMV to raise funds.
