The 21st century can be considered the century of technological evolution due to constant innovations that have an impact on our daily lives. The emergence of the Internet and social networks has brought new concepts and ideologies with their importance and strong integration into certain cultures and habits. In this sense, the theoretical framework seeks to analyze and understand the relevance of social networks, specifically Instagram, regarding the concepts of body image and self-acceptance among young Portuguese women. The main objective of this dissertation is to delve into the analysis of the relevance of social networks, with a special focus on Instagram, and their impact on the concept and perception of "body image" and self-acceptance among young Portuguese women. As social networks have become a significant part of our lives, everything shared on platforms like Instagram has an increasingly significant influence on reality, which can bring both positive and negative impacts. This dissertation aims to answer questions such as: "How do the images and messages on Instagram influence each individual's perception of body image? What are the current and predominant beauty standards on social networks? How do young people deal with possible pressures related to body issues on social networks?" To answer these questions, a quantitative methodology was used, including an online questionnaire constructed in accordance with the research and investigation objectives defined in the methodology. It was concluded that social networks have an impact, both mentally and socially, on young Portuguese females. It was also found that the perception of body image itself can vary due to various factors, both internal and external, especially concerning social networks and their influences. Themes and concepts such as body image and body positivity have been growing in prominence in Portugal, increasingly becoming relevant and a topic of discussion.
