Abstract

Is there a balance between the new Portuguese bodycam law and fundamental rights, such as privacy and freedom? This is the question we aim to answer at the end of the investigation presented in this thesis. Regardless of the many benefits associated with body worn cameras, the truth is, some obstacles are still being brought to discussion when it comes to this modern category of surveillance. The next pages are the result of an investigation based on real-life cases, national legislation and different points of view, as a way to understand if the actual use of
bodycams, and the latest measures adopted to watch citizens and law enforcement
officers, are in fact are provided with proportionality.
