Abstract

The current document has been meticulously developed within the context of the Master's in Nursing and Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing at the Institute of Health Sciences of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, specifically in the field of Nursing for Individuals in Critical Situations. In order to earn the dual degrees of Master and Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing: Critical Situations for Individuals and Their Families, this paper summarizes all skill development and activities completed throughout the internship. The Theory of Comfort by Katherina Kolcaba and the Theory of Transitions by Afaf Meleis serve as the foundation for this paper. This document's main goal is to contextualize and critically evaluate the interventions and activities carried out during the internship while also disseminating to the scientific community the findings of a scoping review on the burnout syndrome in nursing students. The internships were held in both emergency settings, with shifts also being worked in extrahospital settings, the emergency room, and a Comprehensive Intensive Care Unit setting. This report captures my deepened comprehension and refined knowledge, as well as the growth of my abilities and competences, particularly those necessary for a specialist nurse. Individuals in urgent need and their families are frequently seen in various internship environments, highlighting the need of doing internships in these domains. In order to complete the requirements for a Master's degree and to develop my scientific knowledge and research skills, I worked with another graduate student to conduct a scoping review. This scoping study aims to understand the risk factors and preventative measures related to burnout among nursing students in order to address a pressing issue, namely the burnout syndrome.
