Abstract

Business Analytics is about transforming data into valuable information. The objective of this thesis, developed within the International cooperation Unit of Inova+, is to determine how Business Analytics can be implemented at the company. A database was provided by the company, with data from 2009 to 2021, from the different areas of the International Unit, to be analyzed in terms of proposals that have been approved or rejected. This database was used to perform a descriptive analysis of the results, where three dashboards were created, to precisely describe the performance of the company in each year, the different areas and specially the results obtained being a partner in the consortium or a coordinator. The database was also used to perform a logistic regression to try to predict the main variables that have influence over the approval of proposals. The results indicate that most of the proposals are submitted in Portugal, and by two specific areas, and the number of proposals was evenly distributed during the years. However, the logistic regression indicated that the explanatory variables did not have much influence in the result of the proposal submission, with the exception of the RD area, that submitted a lower number of proposals and had a higher approval rate. The logistic regression also indicated that the proposals submitted in Portugal have a lower approval rate than the ones submitted in other countries.
