Abstract

Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance are a public health problem worldwide. They are one of the most prevalent adverse events, increasing morbidity and the number of days of life lost, and represent one of the main causes of death worldwide. With serious consequences in economic and social terms, prolonging hospital stays, increasing the need for technical and human resources, work absenteeism and causing numerous disabilities. They represent one of the main threats to the quality of care and people's safety.
The increase in average life expectancy, aging, more advanced and invasive technical procedures increase the risk of infection. Over the past few decades, the increase in the number of elderly people, chronic illnesses and the degree of dependence has led to a greater need to resort to residential institutions for permanent accommodation. Aging causes a decrease in the immune system, making people more fragile and vulnerable, increasing the risk of infection. Factors that justify the need for an effective approach to the prevention and
control of infections in residential institutions for the elderly. In this context, the
development of the community intervention project emerged based on the methodology of health planning and the theoretical framework of Nola Pender's Health Promotion Model. Aiming to promote the empower of the group of formal caregivers in the area of infection prevention and control through a strategy based on training sessions developed through practical and interactive dynamic interventions. Empower for decision-making, encouragement of health-promoting and disease-preventive behaviors. The evaluation confirmed the pertinence of this type of intervention, which ensured an effective response to
the needs expressed by caregivers, promoting their satisfaction, motivation and increased knowledge. The completion of the internship and the preparation of this report played a key role in the acquisition and development of the recommended skills, in the regulations of the Order of Nurses, of the Master nurse and specialist in Community Nursing in the area of Community Health Nursing and Public Health.
