The school nurse is an innovative concept which is still in development. However, and despite the new improvements for the health centre that have been adapted to respond to needs, there is still a long way to go. Caring, which is a concept closely linked to the health professions, acquires a new meaning in this context: that of prevention. The work done in and by schools is done mainly to try to prevent illness or discomfort in the light of current knowledge regarding the themes of greatest relevance. The nurse, even when he/she works in the health centre that the school belongs to, is a key figure, together with other health professionals, in providing help to teachers or in directly transmitting information related to health. The teacher and nurse form the perfect team for the task set by the National School Health Program, thereby allowing a transversal partnership as well as continuity in health care. This thesis was based on content analysis after the semi-directed interviews were transcribed to those responsible for school health Groupings of the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia. The results obtained are based on the principle of a way to go to the consolidation of the National School Health Programme and the resources available to respond to it. There are actually schools that managed to overcome the difficulties in a creative way and others that relate the need of more support and training so they can respond adequately to the objectives of the National School Health Programme. As conclusions, I can only emphasize that there is a greater concern for health within the context of school while school staff and health till the ground to work this issue in a responsible and appropriate way for different ages, introducing relevant topics the healthy development of individual and family
