The Francisco Capelo Collection of Asian Art consists of over 1300 pieces from 13 countries: India, Himalayas (Nepal and Tibet), Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Timor and the Philippines. The collection will be installed and permanently exhibited in the recently restored and adapted São Roque Palace (Bairro Alto), in Lisbon. This work project aims at becoming an educational resource that contextualises the art pieces of the collection of the future Casa Ásia Museum - The Francisco Capelo Collection, historically, artistically, and culturally. Its primary goal is to help prepare a guided tour. It may also eventually become partially available on the museum website. Moreover, it may become a source of knowledge for a diversified group of professionals (teachers, interpreter guides, researchers, lecturers, and others) by conveying more and better information on the multiplicity of artistic and cultural traditions of Asia, with emphasis on their history, religious beliefs, practices and functionalities, artistic schools and traditional materials and techniques
