Given the current economic climate, which affects us in many different areas, whether it's architecture or finance, architecture assumes a role that can be predominant in search of a path for a solution. This should be seen as an area that touches and influence everyone, because architecture is the city, is the street and the building, and above all architecture is developed for people and with people. This work aims to analyze the role of rehabilitation as a factor of urban regeneration and social integration. The rehabilitation opens up a range of possibilities through its application in buildings and in public spaces, showing not only as a solution, but also as a political, social and strategic act. The cities that seek a sustainable growth, assume rehabilitation as a crucial element for their development. The role of rehabilitation is critical to the revitalization of social, economic and spatial aspects. Denote that rehabilitation is included in strategies to promote sustainable urban development. Based on a number of factors inherent in the urban space, this paper seeks to identify the reasons that underlie the historic cores desertification, leading to their degradation and consequent phenomena originate as physical segregation of spaces and social exclusion. To demonstrate the possible relationship of the subjects addressed in this work is exposed a practical case: the rehabilitation of a building “Casa da Bocas” and an intervention in the public space of a street (rua João Mendes), with the aim of promoting the urbanity of different urban spaces.
