Catálogo de obras de música contemporânea portuguesa para piano

: uma proposta de revisão didática no curso secundário do ensino artístico especializado

Abstract

The creation of a Catalogue of Portuguese Contemporary Works for Piano Solo is born from the desire to develop portuguese contemporary music, and make it a key element in musical study, creating new challenges, not yet integrated in piano teaching, and making the students more complete and prepared for the challenges that they will be offered in higher education. As main objectives, this work was the aim to analyze the importance for piano teachers to have access to a catalog of portuguese contemporary works for solo piano, if it’s important to update the piano teaching program in use, introducing new works and new composers, and even if the organization of this catalogue will lead to a better understanding and dissemination of music and portuguese culture. This work presents the catalog proposal of portuguese works for solo piano composed between 1890 and 2015, as well as summary analysis of some of the works included in it. Also with the educational goal, it included a didactic proposal for piano teaching in Portugal, which was some works on three levels of technical and interpretive difficulty. Thus, through a review and analysis of the literature, was made a research paper and framing of the collected material. They were used as key primary sources the proposed of Program and Pedagogical Methods developed by Vianna da Motta in 1919, the Centre of Investigation & Information of Portuguese Music (MIC), the book Portuguese Piano Music: An Introduction and Annotated Bibliography of the pianist Nancy Lee Harper, the inventories and assets of the teacher João Pedro Mendes Santos, and the book The Invention of the Sounds of the composer Sérgio Azevedo. A comparative study of the portuguese works performed on the last two Piano Competition of Póvoa de Varzim also contributed to the primary sources included in this study.
