Abstract
Introduction: Root perforation is an opening that establishes communicationbetween the pulp space and the periodontal ligament, accounting for 10% of
failures produced in endodontic treatments. This systematic review will focus on
proving the effectiveness of CBCT in detecting these complications. Materials and Methods: A search was carried out on the Pubmed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library and Web of Science platforms, with the terms Mesh defined in the strategy (root perforation OR tooth perforation) AND (Cone Beam OR CBCT).
Results: Of the 15 articles included in this systematic review, in which 73.33%
were from in vitro studies with human teeth and 26.67% were reports of clinical
cases where the effectiveness of CBCT in the detection of posterior perforations
was also evaluated. treatment. Of these 15 studies, 8 compared the effectiveness
of CBCT and conventional methods in detecting root perforations, 4 articles were
reports of clinical cases where CBCT was used and compared in the diagnosis
of this complication, and 3 articles were research studies on the use of CBCT in
different endodontic complications, including root perforations. Conclusions: CBCT proved to be extremely useful and reliable, with greater accuracy than conventional methods in detecting root perforations.
