Abstract

Advances in periodontal plastic surgery and the treatment options it offers, makes possible the resolution of periodontal defects in patients increasingly aware and concerned about the aesthetic of their smile. Gingival recession is a condition which affects a vast number of individuals and often results in a aesthetic deficit for the smile, bringing important physiological implications such as the increased potential for root caries and root surface abrasion, hypersensitivity and increased of plaque accumulation in the affected sites, Applied to the treatment of gingival recession, periodontal plastic surgery, with a wide range of techniques available to the clinician, allows root coverage with guarantees of good prognosis supported by scientific evidence. The qualified oral health professional should select from the surgical treatment options available the best treatment for each situation, taking into account the type of gingival recession, periodontal characteristics of the individual and the expectations of each patient. In this paper, is presented an extensive literature review of all matters relating to the treatment of gingival recession and demonstrated, through the selection of clinical cases, surgical approaches possible to solve the cases presented.
