Abstract
There has been a great need to assess the strengths of young people in institutional care and their skills related to the transition to adulthood (Casey et al., 2010). This reality has aroused interest in the development of this research. As a preliminary approach in the study of the characteristics of thispopulation, the Casey Life Skills scale was translated and the first validation and description analyzes were carried out. After presenting a theoretical approach on the underlying themes and the reality that is present, with regard to the Relationship and Communication Competencies and the Projection of the Future, the results obtained are indicators that there are no statistically significant differences in these subscales in relation to the variables gender, age and duration of the host, nevertheless, these subscales present significant values in terms of Cronbach's alpha, revealing a good internal consistency.
