Abstract

Introduction: This report presents the development of skills carried out as part of the “Final Internship and Report” course of the Master's Degree in Nursing, with a specialization in Community Nursing, in the area of Community Health and Public Health, at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in the context of a Public Health Unit. Adolescence is a stage of developmental transition, accompanied by transformations at various levels. Adolescents' health is influenced by various health determinants, so Health-Related Quality of Life is an important indicator of young people’s perception of their life and health, as it allows, among other things, the identification of more vulnerable groups of individuals and the planning of health promotion interventions. Schools, due to their influence on adolescents and their health, are privileged places for these interventions. Empowering adolescents enables them to acquire knowledge and develop skills, such as socio-emotional skills, thus promoting their healthy transition to adulthood. Method: Using the Health Planning methodology, a Situation Diagnosis was carried out on students aged 14 to 18 at a Vocational Training Center in the district of Porto, which enabled a community intervention project to be drawn up and implemented. Results: With Diagnosis of the Situation, Compromised Socialization was identified as one of the major problems in this community. A project was drawn up with the aim of reducing socialization commitment, in two phases, from September 2024 to July 2026, and it was possible to carry out the strategies planned for phase 1. In the intermediate assessment, there was an improvement of 1.41% in students' perception regarding the quality of their relationship with their peers, an improvement of 0.10% regarding the Bullying dimension and an increase of 1.56% regarding students who (never or recently) felt afraid of other students. As for the percentage of students who reported rarely or never felt sad, there was a decrease of 5.52%. Discussion and Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of the role of the Community Health and Public Health Nurse Specialist in promoting health in individuals, groups and communities, particularly in the area of developing socio-emotional skills in adolescents. Although the results obtained are not significant, they can guide the intervention in the second phase of the project and they reinforce the need to extend School Health, also to professional education students.
