Abstract

In the scope of the 11th edition of the Master's Degree in Nursing with Professional Nature, of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) with Specialization in Medical- Surgical Nursing, a report was proposed. This also seeks to mirror the work carried out in the context of the internships completed, through the description, analysis and reflection of the activities developed. I have acquired various competences throughout the stages carried out in different clinical contexts and health institutions. It also has the purpose of being an evaluation instrument to obtain the title of Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing (EEEMC) and to obtain a Master's Degree in Nursing. The different clinical teachings will be approached in the chronological order of concretization and I will be state the objectives, activities and competences developed along the same ones. They are divided by General Adult Emergency Service, optional stage performed in the Operating Room and Special Surgical Intensive Care Unit (UCICRE). Communication is the vehicle through which human relationships develop and hold. It allows the expressing of thoughts, feelings, social insertion and conviviality. However, during the course of life, communication disorders, related to the health process, may appear at the level of the oral domain, such as total laryngectomy. This condition will create a reorganization in the communication process, through the use of several alternative strategies, in order to contribute to the promotion of comfort in the laryngectomized person and his family. In this sense, and in order to contribute to the improvement of the quality of care provided, a Systematic Review of Literature was developed that allowed the identification of the state of the art on the problem of communication with the laryngectomized person. The course developed allowed me to expand domains such as decision making, favoring continuity of care, acquiring autonomy in professional performance and fostering evidence-based practice, contributing to personal and professional development, but above all to improve the care that is provided.
