Caring in Pediatrics refers to a philosophy of care centered on the dyad: child/youth and family. Throughout life, the child and the family need nursing care, both in terms of health promotion and in situations of acute or chronic illness. This report is part of the Master's Degree in Nursing with Specialization in Child Health and Pediatric Nursing at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. It aims to analyze and critically reflect on the course taken during the internship contexts. The theme of this journey focuses on the Communication of Bad News in Pediatrics, recognizing and valuing nursing interventions and investing in the development of skills that reflect and support the action of specialist nurses throughout this process. A scoping review was used as investigative support for this report, seeking a practice supported by scientific evidence to support the role of the nurse caring for the child/youth and family in dealing with this reality. Jean Watson's transpersonal care model was used as a theoretical basis to guide and orient the practice, bringing intentionality to the care provided. As activities developed, we highlight the collaboration in the development of a Standard Grief Support Procedure and in the preparation of condolence cards to be delivered to grieving families; preparation of a Dossier entirely dedicated to the Communication of Bad News with the purpose of promoting reflection on the topic and its relevance in a paediatric emergency unit. I believe that the competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Child Health and Paediatrics which were most developed during the internship were related to the provision of specific care in response to the needs of the life cycle and development of the child/youth and family, with activities promoting child growth and development. The development of communication skills, with improved communication with the child/youth and family, which is appropriate to their stage of development and their needs. On the other hand, reviewing the whole journey with the inclusion of this report, critical reflection skills were also developed in and on the practice. Awareness of the key role of nurses in this area was promoted, with the assumption of ethical and professional responsibility in the improvement of care for children/youth and family.
