: relação com o clima organizacional e a satisfação no trabalho em corpos de bombeiros portugueses

Abstract

Very little is known about how firefighters perceive their communicative role and howcommunication becomes fundamental to create and maintain a positive climate and satisfactionbetween coworkers. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the connectionsbetween organizational communication, organizational climate and job satisfaction in wageearning firefighters, considering the sociodemagraphic and professional variables: gender andprofessional-personal life. For that, a sample of 102 firefighters (ages 20 – 61) was used, 92men and 10 women, evaluated through a sociodemographic survey, of ICA CommunicationAudit Survey Instrument, of Escala de Clima Social no Trabalho and of Cuestionario de SatisfacciónLaboral S20/23. The results suggest very significant and positive statistical relationshipsbetween sent and received communications and the implication and support, betweenreceived communication and cohesion and between desired communications and control; verysignificant and positive statistical relationships between received and sent communication andthe 5 dimensions of satisfaction and between the communications which need to be sent andthe physical environment; and a significant and positive statistical relationship between thecommunication which need to be sent and the benefits. We also verified that male firefightersreceived, sent and needed to send more communications, perceived higher levels of implication,cohesion and support on their working environments and considered themselves to bemore satisfied that female firefighters. Lastly, we concluded that the group which consideredthat its professional life does not interfere with its personal life is more satisfied with intrinsicand participation.The limitation and implications of the results are presented and discussed.
