This report aims to demonstrate, critical and reflective, the skills adquired over the stage, and its importance in the performance of duties as Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing. During the internships, paid to specialist care the patient/family in a critical situation, promoted the formation in service, stressing the importance of adopting right strategies in communication between nurse and patient undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation, promoting comfort hospital patients. Stage referring to Module I was conducted at the Intensive Care Unit on the outskirts of Lisbon, allowing mobilize and adquire knowledge and skills in the area of care of the patient/family in critical situation. The allusive stage to Module II took place in the emergency department of another hospital in Lisbon, allowing mobilize and adquire knowledge and skills in the care provided to critically ill patients in different emergency contexts. Module III corresponded to an optional internship that focused on the Perioperative Nursing, in the operating room, allowing me to mobilize and adquire knowledge and skills to the patient / family in the perioperative period. During the course of the three modules of the stages, emerged the importance contribute to improving the quality of nursing care related to the process of communication between nurse and patient undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation, which is the main theme of this internship report.
