Abstract

Introduction: Primary Health Care nurses play a key role in Health Planning, and with the evolution of science, it is increasingly important to invest in the specialization of their skills. The nursing care provided must attend to individual necessities, family, and communities, with the aim of promoting health and healthy lifestyles behaviours. Thus, within the scope of what is proposed by the National School Health Program and according to the training axis, the intervention area addressed throughout this report focused on Healthy Lifestyles. All through this report, there is a presentation and a reflection about the Final Internship path, which allowed the skills development of a Specialist Nurse in Community Health and Public Health Methods: This report presents a case study of a project developed with a mixed approach, that is, a qualitative and quantitative approach and its methodologic design is cross-sectional observation. Based on the Health Planning methodology, a community intervention project was developed, in partnership with a Community Care Unit at School E3 and Secondary School of Porto Grande, with the aim to obtain a wide knowledge of the school community through the identification of the problems, needs, risk groups and existing resources. A model is used to approach the school community as a client, the Evaluation, Intervention and Community Empowerment Model- MAIEC. Results: Throughout this process, were developed academic competences of the Master’s in Nursing with Specialization in Community Nursing and Specialist in Community Nursing, which made it possible to recognize their essential role in the school Health context, in the promotion of Heathy Lifestyles. Discussion and conclusion: Additionally to the gains in community health for groups and the school community, during this process, this project was very enriching, given that it allowed the visualization of the health gains sensitive to community nursing care, when planned and executed by Specialists Nurses in Community Health and Public Health, highlighting the school community as a client, evaluating the health state, and empowering it, noting the intervention impact at the level of community empowerment.
