The present report, elaborated in the scope of the curricular unit “Final Stage and Report” of the Master's Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing for People in Critical Situation, from the Institute of Health Sciences of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, aims to be an assessment instrument, and intends to reflect the learning path to obtain the master's degree. Internship contexts were carried out in the intensive care service and in the cardiology service, of two institutions located in the northern region of the country, focusing on care for people in critical situations. It is intended to describe and reflect on the process of learning and acquiring skills, contextualizing the places of clinical practice, the process of acquiring skills in the area of specialization and a global analysis of the learning path and main implications for professional practice and personal and academic growth, which proved to be very enriching, contributing to the awareness of skills as a future specialist nurse. The methodology used was the descriptive, analytical and critical-reflective method, and structurally it consists of four chapters. In the introduction, we can find the framework of the report, internship fields and the objectives set. The second chapter refers to the contextualization of the fields of internship, exposure and critical-reflexive analysis of the activities carried out, with a view to achieving the objectives outlined and acquiring the common skills of the specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing. The third chapter presents the synthesis of the literature review from which the dissertation on communication was prepared, covering communication / sharing bad news and communication in a pandemic time with the title: “conceptions and practices in communication whit critical person/family in pandemic time”. Finally, the conclusion aims to highlight professional development based on the skills acquired. During the internships, the need arose and also the opportunity to develop training actions directed to the nursing team on Central Venous Catheter and nursing care and also another training action on the communication presented in the coronary intensive care unit. The path to obtaining a master's degree intends to describe the set of skills acquired and developed by the nurse specialist in medical-surgical nursing in the area of specialization to the person in critical situation, always pointing to the need for critical thinking, dynamic, interested posture and constant acquisition of knowledge, responsibility and autonomy. Professional practice with a focus on ethics, deontology, communication and the therapeutic relationship is also a target for reflection in the elaboration of this work. The nurse specialist in this area of expertise must be aware of the different dimensions of care and ensure the quality of care provided to the person in a critical situation and their family.
