Student thesis: Master's Thesis

Abstract

This dissertation is the direct result of the learning process observed throughout the practice of supervised teaching (Part I) and the investigation under a pedagogical intervention directed to the theme of “hearing inserted” in Edwin Gordon's Musical Learning Theory (Part II). The first part, dedicated to the report of professional practice, is related to the Artistic School of the Conservatory of Music of Coimbra (EACMC), an entity that welcomed and supported me together with Professor Daniel Tapadinhas, cooperating advisor. During this professional internship, I was able to observe individual trumpet classes as well as trumpet group classes and I had the opportunity to implement my research, alongside classes taught in academic time and classes supervised by the pedagogical advisor. The second part, a report on the pedagogical intervention project, aims to answer the question that gives the title to this work, whether the concept of hearing, proposed by Edwin Gordon, can be used as complementary learning tool when learning the trumpet, focusing on 5th year students of the Basic Course of Music at the EACMC.
