The primary objective of this exploratory study was to characterize alcohol consumption in a group of pregnant Portuguese women, considering predictors such as age, education, personality traits, and pre-pregnancy alcohol consumption. The methodology employed was quantitative in nature, and data were collected through an online questionnaire that included four instruments: the Sociodemographic and Pregnancy Questionnaire, the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT), the Ten-Item Personality Inventory (TIPI-P), and the Attitudes Towards Pregnancy and Motherhood Scale (EAGM), which is not included in this study. The main results confirm that approximately 23.1% of the pregnant women in the sample continued to consume alcohol during pregnancy, highlighting the need for specific interventions to mitigate this behavior. There was a significant reduction in alcohol consumption compared to the pre-pregnancy period. Women with lower education levels, those who were unemployed, and single women had higher rates of alcohol consumption. Pre pregnancy alcohol consumption, unplanned pregnancies, and traits of extroversion were identified as significant predictors. These findings underscore the importance of considering demographic factors and personality traits in interventions aimed at reducing alcohol consumption during pregnancy.
