The Passion of Christ is in the heart of the christian message of salvation. However, there is a contemporary uneasiness before many of the concepts traditionally used on the theological reflection regarding salvation associated with Christ’s Cross. In this dissertation, we search for a profound theological regard upon the various dimensions of the Passion of Christ as an event and its soteriological interpretation, based on the development of these themes in questions 46 through 49 of the III Part of St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae. Based on the concepts developed in the first part of his christology, and on classical concepts from christian soteriology, St. Thomas leads the reflection into a contemplation of the Mistery of the Cross which broadens its juridical sense to reveal the depth of the salvation offered in Christ: the restoration of humankind to communion with God, consummated in eternal beatitude.
