Abstract

This report was prepared under the course Internship, integrated Course in Master of Professional Nursing Nature, in the area of Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Institute of Health Sciences, Catholic University of Portugal, Lisbon, with the purpose of describing and reporting the activities developed in the context of practice, in a reflexive, critical and reasoned, that allowed the trainee to acquire / develop skills in that area of expertise. The accomplished stage was divided into three modules that took place in the Intensive Care Unit Cardiothoracic Surgical of Santa Marta’s Hospital, in the Emergency Service of São José’s Hospital and in the Central Operating Room of Santa Maria’s Hospital. The report begins with a systematic review of the literature conducted by graduate, with a theme that it considered relevant to investigate, in relation to the theoretical axis of Kolcaba and Meleis, selected as a mentor during the internship modules. A systematic literature review aims to answer the research question: "What are the effects of music in transition experienced by people hospitalized in ICU?” and secondary questions: "Does the music have effects comforters in caring for hospitalized patients in ICU?" and "Music is a comforting strategy in caring for hospitalized patients in ICU?". In the next chapter, are described and analyzed the activities of the trainee in the context of practice and the appendices refer to the contributions made by the same along the stage, as it is a period of sharing and learning bidirectional. The main theme adopted by the trainee during the internship was the comfort of the people cared who experience transitions of health and illness, approached in different areas of practice. At the conclusion of the report, a SWOT analysis is performed which enables the trainee to examine the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the stage, as a way of moving towards continuous improvement of the quality of nursing care.
