Resilience in the elderly is a recent theme in the research, although of great importance. It is in fact an area that will promote several innovative future studies, as well as exploitation of resources to improve the quality of life of older (Fortes, et al., 2008). Thus, it is important to study the fact that some elderly people get older in a healthy and resilient way and on the other hand, the existence of a high prevalence of cognitive decline in this population. Thus, the study in question seeks to determine whether, in fact, the resilient coping can be considered a protective factor of cognitive decline as well as it`s relation with other factors that exist in a institutionalized elderly population.
