Abstract

Being an increasingly implemented practice, Corporate Foresight CF) can be a benefit and competitive advantage for firms who apply it. Scanning, futuring and reconfiguring represent logical and sequential steps that provide the right structure for a successful application of CF. However, the way that companies manage to mitigate VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) environments and how does it affect their strategic management remains unclear. The purpose of this study is therefore to answer the following research question: How CF influences strategic management? In particular, this study aims to understand if in a Portuguese listed company, CF application is done accordingly to the theory regarding each step but also how and if it affects their strategic management. To collect answers to our questions, a study case of MotaEngil was conducted through an interview guide. The conclusions are that there are great basis of CF application and that it is considered as an integrated part of the strategy instead of impacting it but that the company needs to acquire more theoretical knowledge to combine with its experience in order to get more successful results than it already has.
