Abstract

This dissertation aims to understand how the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility in a company can effectively guide the internationalization process.Traditionally, superior technical Know-How, Innovation, Research & Development are excellent motors for a company to expand internationally. However, due to many urgent global issues, CSR practices could additionally be included on the list. The transnational and multidimensional dimensions make their impact affect a larger range of stakeholders, and address solutions for these global concerns while leveraging the company’s reputation. This dissertation highlights Korko - Made by Nature case study. This company is a joint venture between the Portuguese Corticeira Amorim and the German HAPE group which develops sustainable cork toys. By emphasizing safe and ecological toys, with strong educational features and made from a natural material, this Portuguese small and medium enterprise (SME) already has international expressiveness finding its customers, in Northern Europe. Korko plays a vital role in this Dissertation, in understanding the implementation of this concept in an SME as a form of engine for the internationalization process, also invoking the benefits and demonstrating the challenges experienced.
