Abstract

The Post-Graduate Course in Nursing with specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing from Catholic University aims at the acquisition, development and integration of knowledge for advanced nursing care to adult and elderly patients with severe disease and in critical condition, the curriculum includes the Course - Report with 375 hours-15 ECTS. This report makes reference to the professional exercise and taken attitudes while future nurse specialist, I promoted the critical reflection of the developed activities and illustrated the journey performed over the training modules, which represent 30 ECTS what it corresponds a total of 750 hours. The period of training is divided in 3 modules, each one of which with 10 ECTS that is 180 hours of contact, carried through for the following order: Module III carried through in the North Delegation of the INEM; Module I elapsed in the Service of Urgency and Module II in the Unit of Intensive Cares Multipurpose, both in the Unit Padre Américo Hospital Center Tâmega and Sousa, EPE. The report was organized into three main domains the first one was dedicated to the installment of cares, where I made the exposition of all the activities for me developed in the installment of cares of nursing to the individual and its family. It was followed by the area of the management of cares, where I approached different models of management of cares with that I came across myself, being that in this area the developed activities had been essentially in the area of observation. In the third domain I approached the activities carried through in the area of the formation, nominated the joined identification of the formative necessities of the services and solutions. Throughout each one of the domain I mentioned the abilities acquired in the area of specialization in medical-surgical nursing. The methodology used was basically descriptive and reflective, associated support strategies such as literature, informal interviews with head nurses, nurses, tutors and other professional services, observation and analysis during the stage. The elaboration of this report caused both personal and professional growth, it stimulated the reflective thought and it promoted the reflection concerning the developed work. It evidenced that the nurse with specialization in medical-surgical nursing, must have abilities that allow it to manage cares of particular complexity to the adult and elderly patients with severe disease and in critical condition. Sick people whose life is threatened by failure or eminent failure of one or more vital functions and whose survival depends on advanced means of surveillance, monitoring and therapy. The work of the nurse specialist aims to generate health gains for the design and production of care with high quality.
