The child with ostomy and family is currently, due to technological development in the health field, a growing population, which requires a deeper look by the Nurse Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing. This specialized care should not only take into account the specific care for the child with an ostomy, but also care that promotes their physical, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual development, not forgetting family as an essential support in the quality of life of these children. The training and empowerment of parents/caregivers of children with ostomies can be understood in the light of the theoretical framework described by Cheryl Gibson, “The process of empowerment in mothers of chronically ill children”, allowing to intervene and facilitate the transition in the various stages of the process, making them partners in care and then allowing them to be the care managers. With the focus on empowerment parents/caregivers of children with a stoma, was co-authored the Scoping Review: “Empowerment the parents of ostomized children for the autonomy of the parental role” leading to the mapping of scientific evidence. This report is part of the Master's Course in Nursing, in the specialist area of Child and Pediatric Health at the Instituto de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Aiming to describe the course developed in the various internship contexts in a critical and reflective way, highlighting the intervention of the specialist nurse in caring for children with ostomy and family, as well as the deepening of common and specific skills. In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, it was possible to intervene and develop skills in the care of children with an intestinal elimination ostomy and family. I emphasize the fact that I produced several teaching materials and provided the team with various resources to provide safe and quality care. At the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, I had the opportunity to intervene and develop skills in caring for children with respiratory ostomy and family. I highlight the opportunity of not only having prepared various materials and resources, but also reviewing the care standard of care for children with tracheotomy, with a view to safety and improving the quality of care. Also having the unique opportunity to create synergies between several institutional working groups resulting in the elaboration of a simulation project for parents/caregivers of children with tracheotomy. In the Pediatric Surgery and Burns service, I developed skills in the care of children with non-continent urinary ostomy and family. I emphasize the development of various teaching materials and resources not only for the parents/caregivers but also for the children. I end this path with the elaboration of a project for the continuous improvement of institutional nursing care - Pediatric Stomatherapy Nursing Consultation.
