Crianças com asma e a intervenção de enfermagem na comunidade

Abstract

Chronic diseases particularly Chronic Respiratory Diseases (CRD), continue to be one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in Portugal, with an increasing trend. Considering that asthma is a common chronic disease in both children and adults, its prevalence is higher among the pediatric and youth populations. It is up to the Community Health and Public Health Nursing Specialist to assess the population's state of health, draw up projects suited to the real needs identified, implement interventions, monitor, and evaluate, cooperating in epidemiological surveillance, to produce relevant indicators for decision-making. This document represents the culmination of the Final Internship module and the acquisition of skills as a master’s in nursing with Specialization in Community Health and Public Health Nursing. A diagnosis was conducted using health planning methodology to address the defined objective: identifying nursing care needs of patients diagnosed with asthma without intervention from the CCU. With the application and analysis of the data collection questionnaire, 6 problems were identified and after prioritization, two stood out: "Compromised ability to manage medication regime" and "Lack of knowledge about the disease." Considering the identified diagnoses, interventions were suggested and implemented, producing indicators to evaluate the action strategies. This study emphasizes the need for continuous intervention in patients with chronic diseases to improve their quality of life, leading to health gains in the population.
