The COVID19 pandemic caused changes in the social and economic sphere worldwide. The containment required to control the incidence of new cases has altered the dailylives of families and children with psychological consequences. The school health team must be sensitive to this issue, identifying the health needs of children in order to enable them to respond positively to the imposed changes. This project was implemented in a basic school in the parish of Pontinha, Odivelas, in a 3rd grade class and aims to contribute to the process of empowering children to adopt behaviors to overcome the effects of the pandemic. Imperatori and Giraldes' Health Planning Methodology (1993) and Callista Roy'sAdaptation Model were used as a nursing theoretical reference. Health needs and problems were identified through meetings with community partners, bibliographic research, observation in the school setting and data collection from the children through an open ended question. The results obtained through the diagnosis of the situation showed that children had negative feelings about the disease and the virus, showed a deficit of knowledge about the manifestations of the disease and characteristics of the virus, as well as in relation to preventive measures. The intervention was carried out through health promotion and children empowermentactions. The results obtained show that the children acquired knowledge about the contents addressed, as well as skills to manage negative emotions. The project contributed to promote the children's adaptation process to the changes imposed by the pandemic, as well as to the development of competences of community nurse specialists.
