This report is part of the completion of the Master's program in Medical-Surgical Nursing, focusing on the area of Nursing Care for Individuals in Critical Situations. It reflects the entire journey undertaken, including the conducted research, and provides a critical and reflective description of the activities carried out, as well as the competencies acquired in different internship settings. As part of the Final Internship and Report, an internship was conducted in three distinct yet complementary contexts. The first part took place in pre-hospital emergency care, the second in an emergency operating room, both within a central hospital in Lisbon, and finally, in an Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital in Lisbon. The specific objectives guiding the internship experiences were to develop competencies in specialized care for critically ill patients and their families and contribute to the improvement of nursing care quality for critically ill patients in each context. Based on the competencies developed during my professional experience in caring for patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis, I received accreditation for the Surveillance and Clinical Decision-Making module. The choice of institutions and specific services was always driven by the pursuit of new knowledge and realities to enhance my care provision. The report also includes a research study, and a scoping review, conducted on the topic - Strategies for Nursing Care of the Multicultural Critically Ill Patient. This study proved highly relevant and made a significant contribution to improving the quality of care in internships. Translated documents were developed to support nursing care in other languages. This report aims to demonstrate the lived experiences that were instrumental in acquiring knowledge and developing essential competencies for a Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing, particularly in the field of Nursing Care for Individuals in Critical Situations.
